Imagine it, you lost your job, you are being evicted and you have three children to house and feed, what can you do to keep your family together? What if your husband has beaten you one more time and hit your child as he was leaving. It's 2 a.m., where do you turn?

Welcome to Red Door Family Shelter

The Welcome Mat is always out at the Red Door Family Shelter! Since 1982 homeless families in Toronto have had a temporary home at the Red Door while they got back on their feet and were able to move into their own home once again. Women and children fleeing violence, refugees and other families needing safe, supportive housing in an emergency have found it here.

Thank You For Visiting

On our website pages you will be able to discover how to access our services. If you are fleeing an abusive relationship and want to protect your children from violence, are a refugee and don't know where to go, or need temporary shelter you will find out about how we can help.

For those who want to get involved as a volunteer or donor, request a speaker or find information for your school project you will find answers here. There is also a description of some of our activities and offerings such as the Moving Program and our involvement with the Basketeers, as well as stories of people who have used the Red Door.
