The food bank is a vital service for families who have moved out of the shelter and are struggling to make ends meet. More than just food, it provides a sense of security and support for moms working to build a brighter future for their family.
At our old family shelter, the food bank served over 100 families each year. Due to lack of space, we had to distribute food from an awkward, space underneath the stairwell - as you can see in this picture. It was difficult but we made it work. However at our new, purpose-built family shelter there will be a large room specifically for the food bank. It will include proper storage facilities as well as refrigeration and freezers. This is made possible thanks to the support of the donors to our $3M Community of Hope campaign.
