A Holiday Message from Ann Elliott, President and Chair

mom and children looking with hope in the same direction

“If one has courage, nothing can dim the light which shines from within.” -Maya Angelou

To truly know the meaning of courage, you have to look into the eyes of a mom who is being sheltered from domestic violence at the Red Door Shelter.

This mom knows the depths of despair. This mom knows the strength it takes to flee from an abuser. This mom knows how hard it is to leave everything behind to be safe, and to heal and start a new life. Most of us can't even imagine it.

The courage and resilience of women at the Red Door Shelter is truly inspiring. After surviving harrowing events, brave moms come to the shelter to be surrounded by love:

“I was in the darkest place of my life. But when I came to Red Door, it was like a family. Knowing that all of the support is there, it’s like that darkness was lifted off me. I know that I have the strength in me, and will never have to face the abuse again.” - Maria, mother of 2

Your support is critical. With you by our side we can build on each mom's inner strength with supportive programs to help them heal and rebuild their lives.

In 2019, more than 500 courageous moms will arrive at our doors with their children seeking safety, sanctuary, and hope. We can only turn that hope into lasting positive change with your help.

If you haven't already made your gift this year, please donate now.

Change begins with you. Please stand with courageous moms and help them build the bright futures they deserve. Thank you.
