On Sunday, November 6th, the Lula Lounge opens its doors to the 3rd Annual Blues for the Red Door, a spectacular blues revue that takes a conventional music industry model and turns it on its ear.
We're all familiar with the stereotype of the male backup band supporting female singers who are expected to demonstrate a certain amount of sex appeal to "sell" the music... At Blues for the Red Door, we are doing it the other way around: we present a cabaret of 9 top male blues performers singing their hearts out, supported by a powerful, all-woman band. It's all for a great cause, namely the safety and welfare of women and their families facing crisis. The Red Door Shelter is mandated to serve women and their families who are escaping violence and adversity.
The producers hope that this amusing reversal of conventional gender roles in the "old school" music industry model will further drive home the underlying issues of women’s empowerment which lie at the heart of the Red Door Shelter's mandate.
Among the performers are such luminary blues men as
Juno Award winner for Best Blues Artist Julian Fauth
Richard Underhill, Sax Master & Multiple Award Winner
Musician & JazzFM air personality Danny Marks (Blues FM)
Brooke Blackburn, celebrated blues guitarist
Blues Harp master & singer Mark “Bird” Stafford

Killer Roots Bluesman Alfie Smith
Derrick Sweet, superb jazz and blues vocalist
