Red Door Threatened by Condo Development

Our shelter for homeless families is being threatened. The real estate developer , Rose and Thistle who were working with us on a project for a new shelter has now left our long-term home at 875 Queen St. East in receivership and owes us $50,000.  Now, the receiver is planning to sell the site to another developer. Neither group has provided us concrete plans about our future. They plan to develop condos on our site.

We want to stay where we are. We’ve been at this location for over 30 years and we want to continue to be an integral part of the South Riverdale Community supporting over 250 homeless families each year at our Queen St. shelter.   We have support from local schools, doctors, dentists, residents, and businesses. We are part of this community.

We are mobilizing the community for support and ask you, as a supporter of the Red Door, to join us in our Save the Red Door Campaign.  We are planning to have notes of support, the signing of an online petition, participation in a Facebook page and a public meeting.   I am hoping you can assist us with some or all of these forms of support.

Please attend our first community meeting held on Tuesday, March 25 from 7-9 p.m. at our Administrative Offices on 21 Carlaw Avenue, Toronto.   Please come and help us Save the Red Door!

We would like to assure you that during this challenging period Red Door will continue to operate as usual and provide the excellent programs and services as it has for the last 30 years.
