On Monday August 26th, Kozeta Salon and her neighbouring businesses provided 32 children from the Red Door with free “back to school” haircuts, as well as backpacks filled with school supplies.  The children were thrilled at and are looking forward to heading back to school in style.

Salon Owner, Kozeta, who was a former resident of the Red Door herself years ago, organized the event as a way to give back some of the support she received. I was overwhelmed by the unconditional welcome we received, and now it’s my turn to demonstrate the same for others.” says Izeti.

‘Kids in the Kitchen’ is a fantastic program (run by the Junior League of Toronto) that "works with kids to discover exciting healthy recipes, as well as healthy body/mind activities".  Kids in the Kitchen volunteers hosted a series of workshops for the children at Red Door Shelter and the kids had a blast!

Thank you again to all of the Kids in the Kitchen volunteers for bringing this wonderful program to Red Door.  We look forward to working with you on an ongoing basis!

We are so grateful to Scribble Me Silly for bringing their wonderful program to the Red Door.   The Scribble Me Silly team is “committed to providing opportunities for self-expression, nurturing creative talents, promoting positive role models, building self-esteem, and bringing artists and children together in the silliest of ways”.  The Red Door children and youth had a fantastic time at the workshops and we can’t wait for the next session.

One of our biggest needs throughout the year is non-perishable items for our food bank and many Corporate groups host food drives in support of Red Door Shelter.  Many of these groups also offer their assistance to our Housing and Outreach team on a regular food bank day.  Larger groups are often able to help out in the food bank as well as other areas of the shelter including the donation rooms and the kitchen.

Our Make Some Change Drive has reached it's goal!  With the help of a generous gift from new friends of the Red Door Ali Murat and Ozlem Gocek, we've reached our goal of raising $500, which will enable us to provide an abused mother and her children with a safety plan and legal support so that they will be safe from harm, and can begin to build a brighter future. Thank you so much to everyone who participated and donated!

A huge thanks to Sabre Holdings/Travelocity.ca for hosting a food drive to benefit Red Door Shelter.  On May 14, 2013 volunteers from Sabre Holdings/Travelocity.ca delivered much needed non-perishable food items to the Red Door Shelter Food Bank. The group stayed on to assist our Housing & Outreach team sort and organize the donations and help distribute to our ex-residents.  They also willingly helped out in other areas including the donation room and the kitchen.
