Support Services

Food Bank

After leaving the shelter, clients can visit our weekly food bank during their transition to independence. Today’s high cost of housing means many families spend an average of 54% of their income on rent, so our food bank helps them stretch funds a little further.

In the last year alone, 161 families have used our food banks.

Healing and strengthening

Our goal is to make sure everyone leaving our shelter does so with the tools and mindset needed to build a thriving life.

We offer counselling, life-skills training and other supportive services that provide clients with emotional and psychological support.

We also have a strong network of lawyers, and other professionals who can support our clients through the challenges that often accompany homelessness.

Support for children & youth

Children are a huge priority in our programming because homelessness has a profound impact on development, and the trauma experienced can have lifelong implications.

We focus on their emotional and psychological well-being, making sure our services equip them to move on from a very difficult life experience in a positive way.

We also offer a range of services and activities to provide support and joy, such as a homework club, group activities and outings, life skills classes for teens and more.

Transitional Support

We run outreach programs that help reduce financial pressures, to support families in staying in their homes as they rebuild their lives.

With our support, 95% of clients continue to keep their home, improve their connections, reduce their social isolation and achieve long-term stability and independence.

The Wishing Tree

Not sure what the children at Red Door Family Shelter would like this holiday season? We’ve got you covered with The Wishing Tree! 🎄

Avoid the four stages of gift-giving—“I think they’ll like this!” “I think they’ll like this?!” “Will they like this?” “I hope they like this.”—and remove all the guesswork.

Each child staying in our shelter has written their wish, and we’ve added these heartfelt notes to our Wishing Tree. By choosing a wish to grant, you’ll make holiday dreams come true while keeping your gift-giving stress-free. 🌟
