Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan

Our Vision

Ending family homelessness, one family at a time.

Our Mission

We provide safe, temporary refuge and vital services that enable families to rebuild their lives and establish themselves in their communities.

Our Values

These underpin everything we do and help us work towards achieving our vision.

Compassion

We believe all people are deserving of respect. Therefore we celebrate our diversity and uniqueness, and treat each other with kindness, empathy and dignity.

Equity

We recognize that systemic barriers privilege some people and hold others back. Therefore we strive to deliver inclusive services, work to address discrimination and end cycles of violence and poverty.

Collaboration

We know that we are stronger together. Therefore we build effective relationships, work as teams and partners for excellence and impact.

Integrity

We are responsible for resources entrusted to us. Therefore we measure, achieve and report our results, strive to learn and improve continuously, and behave at all times in a manner that is ethical, transparent and professional.

Our Strategic Plan

Priority 1: Provide Service Excellence for Families

Deliver excellent family-centred services and work collaboratively to address the systemic issues that impact families who experience homelessness.

Actions:

  • Advance a facility strategy that provides a long-term solution for both the gender-based violence shelter and family shelter, and which includes options for integrating admin and/or transitional housing on site.
  • Boost engagement in strategic and collaborative advocacy initiatives that address the systemic issues impacting families we serve.
  • Increase and improve our delivery of parenting, mental health and life skills/wellbeing programming and strengthen partnerships to provide a continuum of supports to families.

Priority 2: Modernize for impact
Strengthen organizational collaboration, efficiency, and services to modernize  technologies, structures, systems and processes.

Actions:

Develop an optimal organizational structure that integrates sites, clarifies functions and roles, and promotes collaboration.

Implement a cohesive, secure and modern technology system across the organization.

Develop our organizational capacity in diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) and integrate DEIA throughout our organization – our policies, processes, people and services.

Priority 3: Be an Employer of Choice
Attract and retain the best talent and provide a workplace that is inclusive, diverse and  equitable.

Actions:

  • Implement ongoing, consistent and accessible staff feedback, engagement and communication processes.
  • Conduct a regular review of our compensation/total rewards structure to ensure we are a competitive employer.
  • Enhance organizational competencies through a comprehensive learning and development plan.

Priority 4: Make a Difference Today and Tomorrow

Enable families to reach their goals by diversifying and increasing our funding and reducing our financial risk.

Actions:

Establish and implement a strategic fundraising plan that includes annual targets and is aligned with our 3 year priorities.

Develop an enterprise risk management program.

The Wishing Tree

Not sure what the children at Red Door Family Shelter would like this holiday season? We’ve got you covered with The Wishing Tree! 🎄

Avoid the four stages of gift-giving—“I think they’ll like this!” “I think they’ll like this?!” “Will they like this?” “I hope they like this.”—and remove all the guesswork.

Each child staying in our shelter has written their wish, and we’ve added these heartfelt notes to our Wishing Tree. By choosing a wish to grant, you’ll make holiday dreams come true while keeping your gift-giving stress-free. 🌟
